I love trivia. There, I’ve said it. There’s few things I enjoy more than a good game of trivial pursuit. I’ve been known to scour the internet to learn more about whatever topic strikes my fancy that day. One day recently, it was YouTube.
Here’s some of the fun things I found out:
• The domain name youtube.com was activated on February 14, 2005.
• The first YouTube video was entitled Me at the zoo, and shows one of the founder at the San Diego Zoo. The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005, and can still be viewed on the site. It currently has nearly 4.4 million views.
• During the summer of 2006, YouTube was one of the fastest growing websites and was outpaced even MySpace’s rate of growth. (impressive at the time)
• In Novermber 2005, YouTube initially received $3.5 million dollars from venture capitalists. Less than a year later, in October 2006, Google announced that it would acquire YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock. (not bad, eh?)
• January 2011 statistics show that YouTube streams more than 2 billion videos per day. (was 1 billion per day in 2009)
